This picture of a Soldier sitting on the ground with a gun in arms next to a local girl laughing depicts so many different emotions and meanings. When I first looked at this picture it gave me a really warm feeling. It shows love in a way that is so true and so genuine. Even in dire moments, in the midst of a war, a foreign country, surrounded by unfamiliar circumstances and emotions a soldier may find the love of life that he so dearly holds on to.
Being a soldier in a way takes away a person’s individuality to an onlooker. To look at a battalion of hundreds of people dressed identical, or at the deck of an aircraft carrier at all the men and women in uniform, but a personality shines through in this picture.
It also shows the compassion of children, uncorrupted, innocent, accepting and honest. They are both laughing and smiling at each other and there is no superficiality. People have the capacity for so much compassion; it would benefit the world to realize this.
