The eye is a complex mechanism of human perception, yet despite its complexity there is an infinite amount of knowledge that is beyond the brink of visual capability just waiting to be discovered. In order to satiate the ever thirsty curiosity of every unknown the mind, an exponentially more complicated processor than the eye, is able to compensate and create devices that enable the eye extend its capacity and see the invisible. Thermal Imaging cameras do just this, extend the human visual capacity.
Thermal Imaging is a technology that has been in the works for centuries. The early stages of thermal imagery development began with the Ancient Egyptians who notoriously studied the human form. They would feel the body and discern temperature differences across different regions of the body. Some regions would be warmer and some would be cooler. Another early form of the science is rooted in Ancient Greece. The Grecians would immerse the body in mud, the parts of the body on which the mud dried faster were the warmer areas of the body. They recorded their findings and came to a conclusion that usually warmer or cooler tissue was diseased. The first technological breakthrough with thermal imaging came in 1880, the discovery of infrared radiation was made by Sir William Herschel.
