"Recycling Program at UM"
The article on the University of Miami website was written to convince the readers that the University is doing a good thing and that the recycling program is successful. The audience the article is written for is Students, Parents of University students, prospective students and investors. Basically the University wants to come across as doing the right thing to their audience. The evidence the article uses is the measured recycled waste that gets sent to Pembroke Pines to be sorted. Having a number is necessary in measure the success of the project. The tone the author uses is semi-formal because its not a scientific article but more of an informative news article. Just updating the status of the program. The language the writer uses to get the point across is known as concrete because he describes the recycling process and the steps that the University has taken in bettering the program. Concrete is really the best way to do informative writing. The discourse community of this writing is the University of Miami: the student population and the prospective students and parents. The voice is Authorial and the writer has the use of logic through his writing by pointing out how simple recycling is and that every student should get involved.

My Version of the Recycling Program
My style of writing was not that diffrent from the original version, although my purpose was diffrent. In my rewrite I attempted to write informatively so that fellow students would understand the new program and hopefully get involved because recycling is a great way to make a diffrence in our school (and its not very difficult). The discourse community of my article was fellow students in the Univeristy of Miami. My evidence came from the orriginal article and from seeing the improvements around school and in the residence halls. After reading the article i went and looked for these recycling bins around school. Yes, they were there. My tone was informal becuase it was a blog post and my language was concrete.
